Salt Lake City public park: cameras displace drug dealers

WKSL out of Salt Lake City Utah is shedding more insight into what happens when surveillance cameras are installed in high crime public parks.  According to the first article, four cameras were installed in Pioneer Park to battle the drug dealing problem.  The police were looking to achieve three objectives:

Manteca, CA: Removing crime from parks with surveillance cameras

Are public parks the best place for CCTV technologies?

There is no evidence that cameras deter violent crime, however, there is some evidence surfacing that CCTV combined with video analytics, motion detection, and email alerts is actually stopping vandalism in public parks.
According to the Baltimore Sun, 5 parks will be fitted with this equipment based on the success of a pilot program from Reistertown park.
