In another round of "CCTV cameras make the world safer", the question that keeps coming up is safer from who?!
The LA Times is reporting today about repeated assualts by the guards which have prompted about 11 investigations.
"They are not meant to be acting as police officers," said Sheriff's Cmdr. Dan Finkelstein, who oversees the department's transit bureau, which has a contract with the MTA to police local rails and buses. " 'Observe and report' here has become 'observe and take action.' "
This researcher is wondering if these cameras are being monitored in a command center, why weren't these assaults stopped in progress? If security guards are manning the cameras, who's watching watching the watcher?
